Kalocsai Bokréta Folk Ensemble

The Kalocsai Bokréta Folk Ensemble was established in 1990 with the excellent leadership of the dance teacher, Ferenc Tóth. From the very beginning, the aim of the group was to introduce the traditional folk-games and folk dances to children, adolescents and adults, and later on, to present this knowledge on local, regional, national and international events. Today almost 300 children and adults dance in seven different age groups. Their teachers are: Mrs. Krisztina Koszta Illés, Zoltán Illés, Szilvia Dudás and Mrs. [Péter] Vácz.

Today the more specific goal of the organization is to deepen the enquiry about the Hungarian folk dance and folk culture in the children and the younger generations. The ensemble believes that they should learn about our traditions and the dances of the Hungarian nation, including the steps, characteristics, style, and costumes of these dances.

The Kalocsai Bokréta Folk Ensemble takes into consideration the special characteristics of the children’s age, along with their interest and talent while teaching them the forgotten traditions through the love of folk dance. Their main goal is to study, preserve and teach the dances, traditions, costumes and games of the Kalocsa-area.

Since its foundation, the ensemble nurtures the talented children and brings the support of the next generation to the fore.

The groups regularly and successfully participate in national and international festivals. For their hard work, they have received numerous awards while many European countries invite them to promote the world-famous folk dances and arts of Kalocsa. They have been to Montenegro, Croatia, France, Italy, Turkey, etc…
